Another House Session, another day of Republican wins
This past Thursday the House of Representatives met to take up a few dozen bills the Senate had made amendments to. Your Republican majority prevailed on 100% of those bills. A great day indeed!
And many of those wins were significant. Yet another pro 2nd Amendment bill (HB195) passed along party lines. This clarified and strengthened laws regarding the displaying of a firearm. Both of Barrington’s other Reps (Cassie Levesque and Amanda Gourgue) voted against.
Six separate bills were passed that tightened regulations on election laws. Amongst the most significant (HB523), a voter registering to vote WITHOUT ANY INDENTIFICATION would be required to have their photo taken.
But my favorite bill of the day was HB69. Here is the text of that bill:
“189:17-b Authority of Schools to Display the National and State Mottos. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, no power or authority of the state of New Hampshire, or any political subdivision thereof, shall in any way restrict, or be construed to restrict, the authority of any school or school district to display the national motto, “In God We Trust,” or the state motto, “Live Free or Die,” in any school building”.
As you can see, it is a bill to ensure patriotic Americans in New Hampshire (such as teachers, school administrators, etc) can not be restricted from displaying our national and/or state mottos. Controversial, right? All but 8 democrats voted against this bill (including once again, our other Barrington Reps Levesque and Gourgue). The fact that so many on the left found this bill an affront was bad enough, but the floor discussion by the democrat making his speech against this bill was so off the wall, disrespectful and bordering on insane, that I made an immediate motion to have his remarks recorded into the permanent journal record. At some point VERY soon, we will have the actual text of the radical leftist’s remarks for everyone to read. You will also have the Republican’s remarks also. Such a contrast of patriotism you will never see.
We are now in the finals days of year one of this term. Passing the budget is now a main focus. Several items remain to be “ironed out”. Thanks to Speaker Sherm Packard, I have the honor of being on the Committee of Conference, a small panel of House and Senate members that will hopefully finalize the budget details so the Governor can sign. Stay tuned!
